This was a period of tremendous pride in the benefits of the seaside, Kathryn says, which we can see by the scale of the building and provision being made for those who wanted to experience it – towns all around the coast were building promenades, piers, amusement arcades, cinemas, outdoor swimming pools and all manner of enticements for visitors.
